Sometimes it just pays to be lucky. It was a stormy afternoon and the clouds parted just enough to give this bright band of fiery sky. The clouds were stirring with the winds and it gave the appearance of flames. This photo also shows the value of paying attention to your foreground. It would have been easy to pull over and take a photo of the sky, but I wanted something of interest in the foreground, so I headed for the beach. I got an added bonus with the low tide, getting the great reflections on the pool of water and the warm glow along the water line.

I stayed for several minutes after this shot, in the hope there might even be something more spectacular. Although the sky was changing quickly, it lost this fiery look and just took on more of a uniform glow. Any other day that probably would have sufficed, but after seeing these "flames", I couldn't settle.
